In honor of all Saints day, I wanted to take a minute and profile one our favorite saints. Saint Augustine. He was a Roman African, early Christian theologian and philosopher whose writings influenced the development of Western Christianity and philosophy. Among his most important works is The
City of God
, On Christian Doctrine and Confessions.

After his baptism and conversion to Christianity in 386, Augustine developed his own approach to philosophy and theology, accommodating a variety of methods and perspectives. Believing that the grace of Christ was indispensable to human freedom, he helped formulate the doctrine of original sin and made seminal contributions to the development of just war theory.

Augustine once said, “He who sings, prays twice.” I think by this he meant that singing adds to our praise and worship of God. Sung prayer expresses joy from one who has encountered Jesus Christ and experienced his love.  Next Sunday, in honor of Augustine, let’s sing out like we really mean it!

While on the topic of singing, it is with mixed feelings that we announce the departure of Elizabeth Nowak, our Director of Music and Lituargy. Since joining in 2015, Elizabeth was a valuable member of our team. It has been a wonderful opportunity working with a professional, dedicated, and passionate person like her. We are excited that Elizabeth will have more nights and weekends to spend with her young son Calvin and wish her many blessings in what’s next for her.

In the most beautiful way, Elizabeth shared her heart and faith through lyric and song. For me when Elizabeth sang, it was like as if,  just for a moment, time stood still. That’s how so often her singing would become my prayer.

We are glad to share that Elizabeth and Calvin will continue to be members here at St. Victoria.

Let’s pray twice this week by singing all the louder,

Fr. Bob
