WHAT IS EDGE?
EDGE is a fun, high-energy Catholic youth ministry-oriented program for middle school teens. EDGE provides middle schoolers the opportunity to explore their faith, ask the tough questions, and experience Jesus in a profound and personal way. It builds the foundational knowledge essential for 9-10th grade Confirmation.
WHY ARE MIDDLE SCHOOL FAITH PROGRAMS IMPORTANT?
You might be surprised to find out that nearly 2/3rds of Catholics that leave the Church do so between age 10-17 and… age 13 is the median age teens stop identifying as Catholic; 23% leave by age 10!
HOW DOES EDGE WORK?
EDGE is about building community, so each Wednesday we gather in large group for prayer, games, music and a faith filled message. Then, we break into small groups lead by high school teens and adult mentors for discussion. Middle schoolers love and look up to our high school leaders! This year, EDGE is blessed to have 30 amazing high school students as small group leaders!
While the high schoolers are super busy with school, activities, sports, and jobs, they prioritize coming each week because EDGE made a huge impact on them. Many come directly from sports practices to share how important God is in their life when things are great, and also when things get tough.
HOW CAN I, AS A PARENT, BE INVOLVED?
First, watch for the weekly emails with discussion questions and ASK your teens about EDGE. Did you know that 90% of teens whose parents ask about EDGE see their faith grow! (vs. 35% if not asked)
Secondly, we invite ALL PARENTS to help out! Can you check-in teens upon arrival? Could you direct and welcome, take pictures, decorate, play music, run the AV, or help with logistics? If you have another talent to share, bring it on! Shoot me an email (aesping@stvictoria.org) if you could help, even periodically!
